I have so many memories of camping with my family growing up! From the standard tent and sleeping bags to the trailer pop-up camper with the bunk beds, it was always an exciting adventure to me. Today the world of camping has stepped into another tier with glamping. You can opt to ditch the old school way of camping with added amenities and luxury while taking in the outdoors. If you are hesitant about camping in general or just want to try something different, glamping can be a very relaxing time. My experience glamping at The Fields of Michigan was so rejuvenating! This post shares my fall getaway to the unique Fields of Michigan.
Getting There:
From the Metro-Detroit area, it takes less than 3 hours to get to South Haven, Michigan. The Fields of Michigan is a family-owned property in the beautiful blueberry farm fields. Upon arrival, you will park your car in an open field near the welcome entrance and call for an escort and cart ride to your tent. My escort gave me a tour of the grounds before dropping me and my luggage off to my tent for the evening.
Tip #1: Depending on your tent location, you may have a 10-minute walk to and from your car if you'd like to adventure off of the grounds into the city. Be sure to keep your valuables in a safe-place and carry a flash-light if you are roaming the grounds after dawn.
Tip #2: If you want to take advantage of the group dinner experience, bike rental, or spa, I'd suggest making reservations prior to your visit. The availability can go quickly.
Field Tent Accommodation: Luxury Glamping at Its Finest!
For this Girls' Getaway, I picked the luxury Field Tent with the full en-suite bathroom, king bed, twin cot, and desk. There were so many detailed conveniences in the tent. There was a camping lantern flashlight provided in case you left the tent in the dark hours...so glad too because I didn't even bring a flashlight! The tent had a fireplace heater for the colder months (a portable fan is provided for the warmer months). The large open bathroom had towels and toiletries and the water ran hot and cold with no issues. The mattress was very comfortable and had a heated mattress pad! It was perfect for the cooler season and would also come in handy for cooler summer nights.
Outside of the Tent - There is a spacious area in front of the tent where you can sit table-side or by the firepit. If you request a bike rental for anytime during your stay the bikes will be conveniently placed outside of your tent for the day(s) of rental. A large cooler is also provided for you to store drinks and/or food...don't worry, it's heavy duty so that the animals won't get into it! This is nice to save space while traveling, but just remember to bring the ice (or purchase on the grounds). The tents are not on top of each other and there is plenty of room to spread out with some privacy on your own camp site.
Tip #3: Each night the staff lights your firepit so that you can enjoy an evening fireside! They also deliver a cute smores kit for a snack. Be sure to pack a toaster stick if you don't want to use tree sticks LOL. There is plenty of wood stored near-by as well so you can keep the firepit going as long as you chose. This made for a nice evening wind-down for our Girls' Getaway.
Tip #4: There is no Wi-fi. Oh no, you say? It was great! I was truly able to break away from my busy routine to write and be in my own thoughts...so rejuvenating! You may or may not have good cell phone service on the grounds where the tents are. Near the parking lot off of the road I had better service.
Activities:
#1 - Eat Breakfast!
I don't know about you, but I will get up on vacation early to eat breakfast...especially if it's included! There was a nice daily breakfast buffet with hashbrowns, eggs, fruits, bacon and sausage. There was also plenty of drink choices from tea to juice. If you are an early bird, "Coffee Time" starts at 8am. Be sure to take advantage of the delicious breakfast before hitting the road on your last day as well!
#2 - Have a Spa Treatment
Although, I didn't get a chance to book a spa treatment (it was full when I went to book), the quaint spa facility was nice. You are off in a private shack for your spa treatment. Such a nice way to wind-down and relax in The Fields!
#3 - Take a Bicycle Ride
Embark on a bicycle journey to discover the local grounds or the adjacent beach. It's not only excellent exercise but also an enjoyable pastime of mine. Feel free to bring your own bicycle or utilize the bike rental
services available on-site. This is the perfect activity in any season
#4 - Visit Downtown Saugatuck!
If the peace and quiet becomes too much for you, take a short drive over to downtown Saugatuck for some shopping, dining, and sight-seeing. We were able to spend part of one of the days exploring Saugatuck and have dinner before heading back to our glamp site for the night. This is a great place to shop souvenirs, unique fines, clothes, and art. I always stop at Kilwin's Chocolate too for a sweet treat!
Last Thought: Glamping Just Might Make Anyone Love the Outdoors! Mackinaw Island Getaway
The Fields of Michigan is a must visit for singles, couples, and a "Girls' Getaway." The beautiful grounds, luxury amenities, and relaxing activities certainly give you time to unwind and connect with nature. With no Wi-fi or kids on the grounds, you will be forced to break away from the day-to-day routine. There are also plenty of things to do off of the grounds from visiting wineries to the Michigan Sand Dunes if you need to get back on the grid. Whether you have never been camping, haven't been since you were a kid, or currently enjoy camping...I'd encourage you to try a new adventure Glamping. I'm so glad that I did! Cheers to a great Friday...wherever you are!
