Did you know that there are over 100 types of bananas grown in Hawaii? I didn't realize that the types of bananas were so vast. And honestly, the bananas in Antigua and Hawaii have been the sweetest...and best I've ever had! While on the North Shore & Waterfall Walk Tour in Maui, Hawaii, I was able to taste an apple banana, which is one of the most common bananas in the area. It was small yet so delicious!
Recommendation: The mini bananas seem to be so much sweeter than the larger Cavendish Dole bananas that are common across the United States. Be sure to taste one! When I get back home, I'm going to check out a Whole Foods store to see if I can start upgrading to mini bananas. I've really been missing out when it comes to bananas!
Fun Fact: Ladies, listen up! Back in the 1800s Hawaiian women weren't allowed to consume pork (no bacon...I'd be lost!), turtles, BANANAS, coconuts and certain varieties of fish as it was against ancient Polynesian customs. In the Polynesian culture, it is believed that the nutrients of certain foods are tied to the strengths of certain Gods and if consumed, you'll gain those particular strengths. Women weren't high enough on the totem pole to have such strengths. Here's the kicker...the women weren't even allowed to cook as a result, so the men did all of the cooking. Oh, what a time to be in!

Honorable Mention: Lady Finger Banana from Antigua...this is the smallest to date!

We have similar bananas that we call "Fig" bananas. I use them to make banana fritters, banana porridge or baked treats.
